The Suffering Of Pakistan’s Women

  • Date: Fri, 11/21/2014 - 16:05
  • Pakistan’s women are some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

Every day, millions live in the most extreme and entrenched conditions of gender inequality and injustice. Every day, they live with the psychological trauma inflicted on them by war and conflict.

The Guardian[1] reported on children as young as nine who are forced into child marriages instead of attending school and learning. These young girls are forced into harsher living conditions if their husbands and brothers die in conflict and must raise their children as teenage widows.

The story of a woman who was gang-raped in 2002 as punishment for her brother’s alleged wrongdoings was revealed in BBC News[2]. Women are commonly used as collateral damage in family affairs and take on all the blame. Rarely are they given justice.

FLOW International believes access to clean water and education are one way to prevent crimes against women and paves the way for opportunities. The Rose School teaches gender equality and the school’s nurturing teachers make sure each girl and boy can read and write.

We believe education is the foundation for gender equality and leads the way for a hopeful future. Already, some inspiring educated Pakistani women are creating tidal waves as judges, entrepreneurs and community activists[3] .
